January 15 marks the official opening of the MLB International Signing Period, a landmark date when international amateur players can formally begin their professional baseball careers. On this year’s signing day, Acevedo Academy proudly announced that Yeremy Méndez, a right-handed pitcher, has officially signed with the Colorado Rockies.
Méndez, a 16-year-old pitcher from Montecristi, Dominican Republic, stands 5’11” and weighs 160 pounds. Known for his arm strength, mound presence, and developing command, he has spent the past years refining his craft in a competitive training environment focused on long-term pitcher development.
“This signing represents years of discipline, development, and trust in the process,” said Acevedo Academy staff. “Yeremy showed consistency, coachability, and the work ethic required to compete at the professional level.”

The January 15 signing date is often referred to throughout Latin America as International Signing Day — a moment that turns years of preparation into opportunity. While many agreements are discussed well in advance, contracts only become official once approved by Major League Baseball, making this day one of the most meaningful on the international baseball calendar.
Acevedo Academy operates from its primary baseball complex in the Dominican Republic, while actively developing and sourcing players connected to the United States and other international baseball markets. The academy’s mission remains centered on preparing athletes for professional opportunities through structured training, high-level instruction, and exposure to professional scouting environments.
For Méndez, signing with the Colorado Rockies marks the beginning of a new chapter — one that reflects both individual commitment and the growing impact of Acevedo Academy in international player development.
